چکیده

The precise positioning of robotic systems is of great interest particularly in mobile robots. In this context, the use of omnidirectional vision provides many advantages thanks to its wide field of view. This paper presents an image-based visual control to drive a mobile robot to a desired location, which is specified by a target image previously acquired. It exploits the properties of omnidirectional images to preserve bearing information by using the 1D trifocal tensor. The main contribution of the paper is that the elements of the tensor are introduced directly in the control law and neither any a prior knowledge of the scene nor any auxiliary image are required. Our approach can be applied with any visual sensor obeying approximately a central projection model, presents good robustness to image noise, and avoids the problem of short baseline by exploiting the information of three views. A sliding mode control law in a square system ensures stability and robustness for the closed loop. The good performance of the control system is proven via simulations and real world experiments with a hypercatadioptric imaging system.

Weakly-Calibrated Visual Control of Mobile Robots using the Trifocal Tensor and Central Cameras

In this paper, we present the synthesis of two control schemes that exploit the properties of the trifocal tensor computed from bearing measurements (1D TT), for the poseregulation problem of mobile robots. Both control schemes are valid for vision systems obeying a central projection model, in such a way that visibility constraint problems can be overcome. The use of the 1D TT avoids the need ...

Angle-based homing from a reference image set using the 1D trifocal tensor

This paper presents a visual homing method for a robot moving on the ground plane. The approach employs a set of omnidirectional images acquired previously at different locations (including the goal position) in the environment, and the current image taken by the robot. We present as contribution a method to obtain the relative angles between all these locations, using the computation of the 1D...

Sinusoidal input-based visual control for nonholonomic vehicles

This paper proposes a new visual control approach based on sinusoidal inputs to be used on a nonholonomic robot. We present several contributions: in our method, developed considering a unicycle kinematic model, sinusoids are used in such a way that the generated vehicle trajectories are feasible, smooth and versatile. Our technique improves previous sinusoidal-based control works in terms of e...

Virtual Target Formulation for Singularity-Free Visual Control Using the Trifocal Tensor

We present a novel approach for visual control of wheeled mobile robots, extending the existing works that use the trifocal tensor as source for measurements. In our approach, singularities typically encountered in this kind of methods are removed by formulating the control problem based on the trifocal tensor and by using a virtual target vertical translated from the real target. A single cont...

Visual navigation of wheeled mobile robots using direct feedback of a geometric constraint

Many applications of wheeled mobile robots demand a good solution for the autonomous mobility problem, i.e., the navigation with large displacement. A promising approach to solve this problem is the following of a visual path extracted from a visual memory. In this paper, we propose an imagebased control scheme for driving wheeled mobile robots along visual paths. Our approach is based on the f...
